How We Reduce Waste: Our Eco-Friendly Approach to CDs and DVDs
Share
At Chic Web, sustainability isn’t just an idea — it’s part of our daily operations.
Every CD and DVD that enters our workshop is individually tested, evaluated, and processed responsibly. Our goal is simple: maximize reuse, minimize waste.
1. Step One: Full Testing
Every disc is tested from start to finish.
If it plays perfectly, we prepare it for resale.
If it fails, we don’t simply throw it away — we break it down.
2. What Happens When a Disc Fails?
We separate the product into three components:
• Disc
Damaged or unreadable discs are brought to a local eco-centre.
There, they are:
-
gathered in bulk
-
sent to a specialized recycling partner
-
shredded into small flakes
-
processed to separate polycarbonate from the thin aluminum layer
The recovered plastic is reused in:
-
automotive components
-
electronic equipment
-
transparent molded plastics
-
various household items
This ensures that even a non-working disc gets a second life.
• Case
Most CD and DVD cases are made of polypropylene (PP #5), a recyclable and reusable plastic.
At Chic Web, we take it a step further:
We clean and reuse every case that is still in good condition to reduce our need for new materials.
Cases too damaged to reuse are sent for plastic recycling.
• Cover / Artwork
The printed cover is separated and either:
-
sold in bundles to crafters and artists, or
-
recycled with paper and cardboard
This transforms what would normally be waste into creative material.
3. Why This Matters
By breaking down each product into recoverable parts, we:
-
reduce landfill waste
-
decrease our environmental footprint
-
support local recycling efforts
-
encourage creative reuse
Our customers can feel confident that their purchase helps support a cleaner, more sustainable approach to physical media.
